on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.

igor from antwerp went a little crazy with one of his favorite pieces of music... but what igor did is not just another cover or re-intrepetation... he did make a highly expolsive track based on stravinsky s classic sacre du printemps. ok we agree.. that sounds kind of corny and pretentious... but somehow this bloke managed to get it all right. sounds like a forgotten techno classic from suburban knight who was recording with laurent garnier in his good old days and had henrick schwarz as studio engineer... a classic take on techno with a break that will revive more than one igor. this is a euphoric hands in the air, goose bumps al over record that works at the right moment.

disco devil number 8 sees the return of the man from vienna, mikeburns, sporting 2 more twisted disco edits of the very special kind. galaktattakk on the a side, as the title already suggests is an explosive funky space disco monster, laden with heavy bass, far out synth sounds and an ethereal choir that literally besieges any dance floor. the cheerful and more esoteric theme of the b side track, earth blues disco meditation, makes it feel like the long awaited return home to this blue planet of ours, after an extensive cosmic journey.

second installment by berlin based mri who successfully cultivated since 2002 some serious dance terrains. this release carries two outstanding and rare remixes as well as one original track. by taking techno deep into the mine shafts of dub, chain reactions / basic channel artist fluxion created an eerie, full-circle remix of the latter. you can hear that a man is at work who knows his gear well and is good in what he is doing. the production is brilliant, the selection of sounds superb, set-ups are constructed with caution, superimpositions are finely layered, propagations and ripenings are get going in a well-considered manner. dreadnaught bassline, steady hi-hats and lo-fi clips – a must for basic channel fans ! on the flip, young talented producer u.e.s. delivers the meanest blend of modern techno style and reduced shaped subs that just creams it on every system. and as well as both guys together does mri with original track rough. the „el castillo“ ep separates the styles over two sides and with „rough“ functioning as a wicked minimal techno track with shifted groove hinging on a grinding bassline - drives the track into abyssal techno territory. fans of basic channel and modern electronic music enthusiasts will be all over this beauty.

played by karotte, giles smith (secretsundaze), laurent garnier... already up to its 17th release, yore keeps rolling on, this time with a new release by memory foundation. in 1994 robert hood found his way into a dark basement somewhere in viennas suburbia. mr. hood was impressed by what he had heard, and with him a dat-tape took a long journey back to where techno was invented once. with their first appearance on detroits m-plant label 15 years ago, the memory foundation or one of their many alter egos found its way into the hearts and the record-bags of many serious electronic music lovers. in 1997, after setting up their own record labels central and together with jeremiah grow! and other releases on m-plant, 7th city or usm followed. the memory foundation now returns with their contribution for the yore camp, with their >reptiles in exile ep< they prove that they havent lost their magic touch. the track burns with electro-funk fire, with natural kit and cymbal sounds giving the already-surging cut extra thrust and the staccato burble of metallic chords adding berlin flavour. a lithe eight-note bass motif anchors the warm techno-funk of >bass traveller< as a flaring synth motif squiggles alongside rhodes chords and a boogieing clavinet line, and its easy to become so engrossed by the tunes relaxed swing that the artistry of its arrangement can go underappreciated. textbook body music, >summer visions< is an earthier, mid-tempo funk workout thats sure to get the dance floor crowded, while the light-speed closer >reptiles< blazes a slinky house trail whose fresh swing has got yore written all over it. with any luck, we wont be waiting twelve more years for the next memory foundation release

this is the first in a series of three various artist 12 inch releases, that features four of the dublin labels most trusted henchmen. puresthatreds >robbery< is his debut track on mantrap and what an awesome one it is: dark imposing bass and beats meet the sound of smashing glass, rave led keys and all round mayhem, with haunting strings that send this one into deepest hell. meeting him there is magnetize, who in one take supplied this evil vox led synth grinder in >distant observer< , with deft 808s and distorted crackling fx creating both a scary but grooving feel. rory st john pushes wobbly techno eccentricity on >dysentry<, with fluid editing and supreme use of effects proving again why he is one of the most exciting new talents around. sunil sharpes >print more money and shut up!< is a slippery mover, where a succession of unruly lead sounds accompany odd vocals and rasping hats - with a straightforward approach that will penetrate all in its way. so, four top class techno cuts here, all with their own unique character and all for peak time play.

vertex is an exploration in two parts. the a sideÆs vertex and the locus of points explore the trackier side of tejadaÆs work meant mostly for vinyl play. both tracks make good use of strong wavetable chorded sounds, which are modulated throughout. the rhythms of the chords make up the identity of the track with elements coming in and out. vertex showcases a more layered approach to take the track from a percussive to a smooth feel. the locus of points follows more of a straight up techno approach sounding simple and effective. the b-side explores the more melodic and arrangement based side of tejadaÆs work. liquid mirror is a track rich in layers. 3 modular synth layers provide the initial modulating melodic ground work which is then complimented by lush tejada keyboard work bringing the song to itÆs apex and then reducing it back to itÆs start all while backed by tejadaÆs powerful drum work. p.l.l. (which stands for phase locked loop, a process explored here) continues this theme in a less obvious way. modular synths and drum tracks start things off while midway a modulating melodic phrase is introduced playing back a bit differently every time. four songs in all showcasing tejadaÆs simple and complex approach to dance music.

te amo is a forgotten gem originally released on the volumex label back in 1993 and then licensed to the legendary vc records in the u.k. with mixes from john digweed. this was a huge anthem back in the early 90s full of balearic passion and happiness which is often missing in todayÆs music. but lets not get carried away in the memories of the past and check out these brand new mixes. in fact, the record makes a fine return to todays scene thanks to brilliant interpretations from two of our favourite djs/producers out there: hotly tipped paolo mojo and tapesh.to round off one pretty nifty package, the original caliente mix is enclosed also. and this still sounds as relevant today as it did almost two decades ago. a blast from the past indeed! very similar to releases on record labels like cr2, defected and toolroom.

hailing from montpellier, rodriguez jr. makes his return to leena with “kids of hula,” bringing the coastal sounds of his hometown along with him. after the success of “rubbo swingo”, his first release on leena, rodriguez jr.—who also comprises half of f communications’ the youngsters—went on to release records for boxer recordings and mothership. on leena’s 11th release, he has returned for a second round, once again displaying his softer side as a housey, psychedelic producer. “kids of hula“ begins on a strongly melodic note with airy, exotic chords leading the way and occasional accents of tropical percussion lining the backdrop. old-school throwbacks also have their place here, as the track climaxes with the use of psychedelic vintage sounds that recall the work of space disco giant lindstrom until they ultimately fuse together with the track’s initial harmonies to create a complex and layered final product. the b-side “pandora” begins with a more stuttered beat and a warbled, static-laced environment. the track reaches its high point with psychedelic sounds comparable to those heard on the a-side that possess a more hypnotic, melodic, and spacey twist. digital exclusive “offshore” fills its landscape with fragments of vocals and high pitched bleeps, blurps, squeals that alternate in time with one another until vintage synthesizers enter the picture. as the track progresses, the old-school synthesizer sounds and vocal snippets unite and begin to work together in unison, by the time the track reaches its peak, the vintage synths have taken on a completely new sound and direction, guiding the pulse of the track until its ending.

late 2008 discos capablanca invited eric d. clark and traxx (nation) to dj at a label party. eric ended up singing live over traxx beats. doing so in a daze, originally an unreleased instrumental by traxx and beau wanzer, evolved into the final version you hear here, combining 808 sounds and a passionate vocal delivery, with the rough and gritty edges still intact.
